UC Irvine 2022 Workshop (Online)

Are you thinking about philosophy graduate school? If yes, join the Wonder Workshop at UC Irvine on August 20-21, 2022!

 While this application will be open until the workshop starts, we kindly ask you to apply by August 10 if possible, in order to facilitate event logistics.

Have you wondered: what's it like? How do I Get in? What can I do with it?  
Come to our 2-day online workshop to find out! 
We'll discuss topics such as:
deciding whether and where to apply, the hurdles of the application process, what it takes to get through: finances, time, mental health,
what you can do with a philosophy PhD.

We will have presentations and workshops on

  • Where to apply?
  • Application Package Overview: CV, GPA, GRE
  • Personal Statement + Research Statement
  • Writing Sample
  • Decoding Financial Package

We will also have graduate panels on

  • Applying and Experience as First-Gen Students
  • Applying as Marginalised Persons
  • Experience as Marginalised Persons
  • Research Panel

and faculty panels on

  • Admissions
  • Job Market

The 2022 Irvine iteration of Wonder Philosophy is planned to happen on August 20-21 (Saturday-Sunday) over Zoom. We will have auto captioning enabled.

Please apply if you…
1) have seriously considered doing philosophy graduate school.
2) are in a position to apply within the next 2 years (i.e., at most 2 years away from completing a 4-year Bachelor’s degree by fall). Master’s students and working professionals thinking about going back to school are both encouraged to apply.
3) are a first-generation college student, or … not (See here for more on this)
4) you live/study in the SoCal region
5) you are able to attend the two-day conference on Zoom in its full entirety (barring emergencies).

You do not have to have made up your mind about applying to grad school.
You do not have to major in philosophy.

The workshop is free of charge.
Acceptance to the workshop is not selective based on merit. Questions on this form are designed for us to learn a bit more about you.
